Today I’m going to step you through the first three things you have to do to achieve any goal. The great news? They’re super simple!

 

Just start

Yep. It’s so simple but the reality is most of us don’t even get started on our goals! We keep procrastinating, dreaming about them and thinking about I could do this, or this, or this, or this.

We try to think about everything and get it totally planned out and perfect in our minds, instead of just starting.

I’ll let you in on a secret.

When I started 365+, I had no plan at all! 365+ came about after a very serendipitous turn of events – a story I’ll save for another time! – but basically, I just had to start.

I’ve learned so many things along the way from just getting started and going through the process. I’ve learnt by being on the journey. I’ve learnt by just doing something and taking action instead of wondering what if, and trying to plan and think everything through in so much detail.

I’m super grateful I was just thrown into a situation where I had no option but to choose to go for it or not! Otherwise, I’d still be just procrastinating and wishing and dreaming and thinking, “Oh, wouldn’t it be nice if one day I could inspire millions of women around the world to live a life of their dreams?” But now, I’m actually doing it. I have the business of my dreams and it’s all because I just started!

So make sure that’s the first thing you do. Just start.

Just start and don’t think about it anymore. Go do it. Take action right now. I mean it. Tell me in the comments what action you’re going to take right now!

 

Start small

The second thing is to start really small. It’s totally awesome to set big, audacious, life-changing goals, but to actually get started, think small. Make your first step a small one.

When we go to start a goal, create a new habit or to do anything in life, we’re full of motivation. We’re all like, “Yeah, we’re going to do this! We’re going to make it happen!”.

Then, full of motivation, we try to do #allthethings at once.

The problem is, trying to do everything at once just isn’t sustainable.

So what happens is for a week or two is we’re like hustling like crazy and doing all this stuff at 100 miles an hour. Then, unsurprisingly, we get exhausted, fall down in a heap and say, “This is too hard! It’s not working anyway so I’m just going to give up.”

If you try to achieve your whole goal all at once, it’s like trying to eat the whole elephant in one sitting, it doesn’t work out. You have to eat it little piece, by little piece, by little piece.

If you don’t want to be a quitter (hint – you don’t) you have to set yourself up for success by starting small. Break your big goal down into a bunch of little steps and actions, start really small and then build on those steps.

Which brings me to the third key to success….

 

Take consistent action

A commitment to taking consistent action is the thing that really differentiates those that are successful from those that are not.

Successful people take action. They show up and take action day after day, even on the days they don’t feel like doing it. Even when it doesn’t feel like they’re making progress, even when it feels like this is going nowhere, and they might be thinking what’s the point?

They keep doing it. They keep going. They keep pushing through.

Their habit of consistency eventually leads to success, it may be a long road, but those who are consistent will get there. And really, it’s just so simple. You’ve started something, you’ve committed to small steps and you’re doing something every single day without fail. It’s simple, but the consistent action is what is going to make you hugely successful.

Success isn’t about having about having great big plans and the brightest, shiniest new idea. It’s about actually doing it. My three tips today will set you up to achieve any goal:

> Just start

> Start small

> Be consistent.
