
Did you know there is a really simple way to improve all areas of your health and wellbeing? Literally, one habit can change your life. Today, I’m sharing with you the secret of how to do it, but first, let’s talk about why you’d want to improve your health and wellbeing in the first place.
I really believe it’s critical to prioritise these areas of your life if you want to show up as your very best self every day.
If you’re not taking care of your physical and emotional wellbeing, you’re not elevating your energy. You’re not going to have the stamina and the power to keep pushing through each day because you’re going to run out of juice. It’s that simple. You can’t keep running on empty. You have to refill the tank, and that comes from looking after your health and wellbeing.
Now you know why it’s so crucial to improve your health and wellbeing, I’m going to share with you the easiest way to do it, across all areas!
So you might be thinking, ‘Hmmm Toni, improving ALL areas doesn’t sound like it’s going to be very easy at all!’
But I swear, it is. I’m sharing with you the technique I’ve personally used to elevate all aspects of my health and wellbeing and I’ve seen awesome results.
I want you to pick one thing, just one, in the area of your health and wellness you want to improve.
It could be something like drinking more water, improving the quality of your sleep, exercising more or making healthier eating choices.
Or it could be meditating, reading more or starting a gratitude journal.
There’s probably a bunch of different things running through your mind now, but I just want you to pick one.
The reason I want you to just pick one is because I want you to commit to doing it every single day. Choosing too many new habits to start can get overwhelming. I want you to just focus on one.
Before you come with the ‘I’ve got no time’ excuse, let me stop you. If improving your health and wellbeing is your goal, you need to make doing this new habit a priority.
When things are truly important to us, we don’t try and fit them in around the rest of our schedule, we make them a priority.
We all have 24 hours in a day. No one magically has a secret stash of extra time in their pocket. If you’re really serious about improving your health and wellbeing, then you pick one thing and you do that one thing. Simple.
I’ll share a personal example. A few years ago I decided I was going to get into the habit of exercising every day. I’m not talking about hitting the gym and going crazy with daily 2 hour workouts.
I simply made the decision to make intentional movement each day. Some days it was 5 or 10 minutes of stretching, other days it was going for a run or the gym. Or even just a 15 minute walk around the block.
I chose simple stuff that was very achievable that I could do from my hotel room or in my bedroom if it was late at night and I hadn’t had the chance to do it already.
I made the commitment that I was going to do some type of intentional movement each and every day.
Everyone can find 10 minutes a day. I promise you that 10 minutes a day is going to make you feel so much better. Regardless of what you choose, it’s going to be worthwhile. It’s 10 minutes you’re investing in your health and wellbeing. That’s never going to be a waste of time. Stop scrolling through Insta and spend that time on your health instead.
Now you’ve chosen the one thing, you’re probably thinking, ok, how is this going to change ALL areas of my health and fitness?
This is the trick. When you take that one thing and you make a habit of it, you’re doing it really consistently every day, a little bit of magic begins to happen.
We call this magic a ‘keystone’ habit.
A keystone habit is the first habit you start that actually forms the foundation of all of the other habits you’re going to create around your health and fitness.
Let me give you a couple of examples. When I chose the habit of exercising daily, I initially just focused on getting this one habit totally ingrained into my life.
Then, I got so tired from exercising each day, from expending that extra energy that I began to sleep better.
Then, because I was sleeping better and longer, I started to create the healthy habit of getting quality sleep. Which, by the way, is one of the most important things you can do for your health.
Because I had more sleep, I began to have more time and energy to prepare healthier food.
Then I was eating healthier, which led to having more energy when I was actually doing my workouts.
When I was working out it was making me more thirsty, so I was drinking more water.
My one keystone habit had a domino effect on all other areas of my health and wellbeing. Before I knew it I had all of these amazing healthy habits incorporated in my life.
All this really just started with making a very conscious effort to commit to one healthy habit.
I’m not saying you just do one and then you never have to do anything else, but you work on one first and when you’ve got that one down pat the others begin to fall into place.
If you focused on creating one new healthy habit a month for a year, building on your initial keystone habit, before you know it, a year has passed and you’ve got twelve new healthy habits!
That’s how just starting one new habit will actually improve all areas of your health and fitness.
